Winter Term: Scratchboard I/II

Scratchboard I/II 

Tuesday 6:00 – 9:00pm/ Sunday 1-4

$65 material kit fee

There will be no class during March Break (March 12)

This course is for students who love to draw . The course is for beginners and intermediate student. Develop an understanding of the medium and an ability to create art, using Scratchboard. An emphasis will be placed on the content of the images created as well as skill in mastering techniques. Through out the course there will an exploration in the many usage of line and medium to create an image.

Course Description:

Scratchboard 1

The course is designed is to teach the techniques of Scratchboard.

Scratchboard 2, 3 and 4

These courses are designed for students who have knowledge of scratchboard. The purpose of these courses is to teach the student how to use different mediums with scratchboard.

Scratchboard 2 is designed for student to learn about copper scratchboard and resin. Combining the two elements together to create a unique image. Faux Etching a different style of Scratching

Scratchboard 3 is designed for students to learn about airbrush and how it relates to scratchboard. Painting and Scratching.

Scratchboard 4. This course is designed for the student to learn about gel  transfers and the different mediums that work well with scratchboard.

Scratchboard 5. This course is designed for the student to think in a 3D

fashion… they will be creating a box.

Scratchboard 2,3,4,5 Is designed for a student to work more independently.

Classes Start  January 22 for Tuesday class ,Sunday  class starts Feb,3

Printmaking Relief 

Thursday 6:00 – 9:00pm

There will be no class during March Break (March 14)

 This course is designed as a basic intro to printmaking techniques and the art relief printing. The course goals are to develop an understanding of the medium and an ability to create art using printmaking . An emphasis will be placed on the content of the images created as well as skill in mastering techniques.

Scratchboard: Animal Fairy Boxes

February 2, 12-4 pm + February 9, 1-3 pm

Scratchboards are a board that has been compressed with clay and black ink and has a printmaking quality result. Learn about the history of Scratchboards. There will be a discussion on line, texture, light, shadow and colour.

Scratchboard: Flying Foxes

February 23, 1-4 pm

$45, members $40.00 + $15 material fee

Sign up today and Lisa will lead you step by step through her process to create her unique whimsical creatures.  This short workshop will allow you to learn simple techniques of Scratchboards while creating a fun playful image for you to show off or use as an unique gift.

Canvas Tote Block Printing Flying Pigs

March 2, 1-4 pm

$45, members $40, + $15 material fee

Block Printing is one of the oldest types of printmaking, and has been around for thousands of years. Learn the printing process while you create a one of a kind flying pig design for a Canvas Tote Bag.  Lisa will lead you through the techniques involved to create your own personal stamp that you press onto fabric using fabric ink. Let your imagination run wild as you design and create your very own wearable piece of art.

Scratchboard: Masked Pigs with Lisa Martini-Dunk

April 6, 1-4 pm

Block Printing: Crows

May 25, 12- 4 pm

$60, members $54 + material fee $20

This workshop will look at basic traditional block printing techniques. Using linoleum as a matrix to create the print, students will carve an image of a whimsical crow into the block to then print onto paper through a printing press. Printmaking is about process, and creatively using positive and negative shapes and a variety of marks. The principles of design are essential to block printing and will be reviewed to create your crow image, patterns and designs.
